Die Hard

What can I say... It was good , it was over the top, it was ludicrous.. but sometimes during the film you just get the feeling that something about it wasn't quite right. It could be that in this one McLane feels a little too indestructible, it could be the ridiculous spider jumping guy, it could be that the main bad guy just wasn't an alan rickman or jeremy irons or it could just be that Bruce's botox have left him incapable of showing the look of blind panic he seemed to have in all the other films :)
Though needless to say, I will be watching die hard again .. no action film will ever come close to the first Die Hard and for that matter non Christmas film either :)
I wonder...

What makes the world a better place, focus on society or on the individual? It kinda seems to me that as a civilization we are becoming more globally focused. We worry about kids in africa, mental patients in romainia, global warming.. and more. Yet in someway I don't feel the world is better for it.
It seems to me that people are also more wary of the individual, saying "good morning" to some on your way to work gets you a strange look, offering to help someone struggling with something heavy makes you a freak, and going out of your way to help someone is never remembered.
Maybe it is just that way where i live, maybe it is still all "good morning"s and helping old ladies in villages or smaller communities. Either way I am sure in my childhood people were better, or maybe it is just that as a kid I was cuter :)

I love wikipedia, here is a list of unusual deaths though history it is full of amzingly thick ways to die. some examples are
# 458 BC: The Greek playwright Aeschylus was killed when an eagle dropped a live tortoise on him, mistaking his bald head for a stone.
# 260 BC: According to some accounts, Roman emperor Valerian, after being defeated in battle and captured by the Persians, was used as a footstool by their king Shapur I. After a long period of mistreatment and humiliation, he offered Shapur a huge ransom for his release. In reply, Shapur had molten gold poured down Valerian's throat. He then had the unfortunate emperor skinned and his skin stuffed with straw or dung and preserved as a trophy in the main Persian temple.
# 1771 AD: King of Sweden, Adolf Frederick, died of digestion problems on February 12, 1771 after having consumed a meal consisting of lobster, caviar, sauerkraut, smoked herring and champagne, which was topped off with 14 servings of his favourite dessert: semla served in a bowl of hot milk. He is thus remembered by Swedish schoolchildren as "the king who ate himself to death."
# 1923: Frank Hayes, jockey, suffered a heart attack during a horse race. The horse, Sweet Kiss, went on to finish first, making Hayes the only deceased jockey to win a race.
yes.. I am avoiding phd work.
I have something to say..
